Read project overview

We have previously designed and printed booklets which guide children through the process of coming into care for Cheshire East Council.

Cheshire East council now wanted to improve the experience and support even more for children going through this process by producing an interactive website and a digital animation. The aim was to clearly inform young people of what will happen to them, reassure young people that they are supported and will be cared for and provide information and guidance to help them adjust.

As the core audience are children who are being taken into care, they can range from 4 to 16 years old, they will use the website in very different ways. The design and UX of the website was a major concern as some of the audience would be too young to read or navigate a website.

Creating an informative yet interesting animation would be crucial to achieving the project goals for the 4 to 7 years of age category. The animation is featured on the homepage and follows the fictional character of Amy, who is already living with a care family. The story aims to addresses key concerns the children may have such as living arrangements, going to school and what the future may hold.

The website was designed to allow children of a junior school age (7 to 11 years of age) are able to use the interactive website themselves. The website includes information written in a language they can understand and features lots of interactive elements to ensure attention is kept.

An extra navigation bar was placed at the top of the website for children aged 11 to 16 years of age. Rather than scrolling through the whole animated website, the top navigation bar allows children of this age to quickly accesses the information they want.
